Check out the 2024 edition of the ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, the most detailed assessment of physical activity among children and youth in Canada.
The ParticipACTION Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth constitutes the most detailed assessment of physical activity among children and youth in Canada. It synthesizes data from multiple sources, including the best available peer-reviewed research, to assign a grade to each of the 14 indicators based on the evidence.
This year's Report Card highlights how climate change could negatively impact physical activity in children and youth, and how we can help them face adversity, move more, and strengthen their resilience.
Among the highlights:
- 39% met the recommendation to accumulate 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day;
- Only 31% of girls met this recommendation, compared to 57% of boys.
- 27% of children and youth (49% of children, 17% of youth) met the recommended recreational screen time limit of a maximum of two hours per day;
- 65% of children and youth met the age-specific sleep recommendation (youth aged 5 to 13: 9 to 11 hours per night on average; youth aged 14 to 17: 8 to 10 hours per night on average);
- 4% of children and youth (aged 5 to 17) met all the recommendations of the 24-Hour Movement Guidelines.
