The concept of 'risky play' endorsed by the Canadian Pediatric Society

News - Intro image

If the impact of play on child development is significant, a new concept has been increasingly gaining attention in recent years, that of the importance of "risky play." According to this concept, the freedom for children to expose themselves to a certain level of risk in the context of play, primarily outdoors, allows them to have stimulating experiences that promote their social, physical and mental development. Advocates of this concept argue that the benefits would be much greater than the risks involved, a position now endorsed by the Canadian Pediatric Society.
